There is nothing quite like visiting home where you grew up. Whenever you are home, you always seem to migrate to the kitchen and hang out there, at least our family does. Everyone talks around the kitchen table. Also when going home (or visiting any place you have lived before for that matter) it’s like you have to squeeze in your favorite restaurants that you just crave and can’t get anywhere else!
Anniston brings a few to mind: Top O’ the River, Mata’s, Dad’s BBQ, Classic On Noble, Strut’s/Jefferson’s. Yummy!!!
I also do this with Tuscaloosa: Pita Pit, Mugshots, Dreamland, City Cafe, The Waysider, Bento…..my mouth is watering.
Well I was able to get a few home treats in over this past weekend and share a little taste of Anniston with Brian. He was not disappointed!!!
Friday night started with Mata’s Pizza.
Delicious. This place has been around forever. They are a Greek family-owned restaurant that serves DEEP dish pizza and grinders. My favorite is their greek salad. The house dressing is wonderful and served with fresh feta cheese…..so tasty! I wish I had thought to take a picture.
On Sunday was the true treat, Sunday Brunch at Classic on Noble.
This little gem is one of the best catering companies around. He has definitely brought some charm to little Noble Street. Brian has eaten at the restaurant with us before. We took him there the first time he ever came to visit Anniston with me. It’s the ONLY time I’ve actually eaten in the restaurant aside from a special event! We had to impress him!! It worked! Haha! Brian got the Shrimp and Grits and he hasn’t been able to beat it yet. It is listed as one of the top 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die. Number 9 on the list to be exact. Have you ever seen this list? It makes me hungry just reading it. How many of these dishes have you ever tried? I would like to note that Anniston made the list twice in the top 20! Woohoo! Well this Shrimp and Grits is well deserving of the award.
Anyway, back to the brunch. They have a true spread!!! Brian was amazed at all the food. It is all set up buffet style. To see all of Classic's menus click here.
